+1 spare Gentoo CD, -1 working computer

Yet another post in a few days, I guess you’re wondering what happened that you get such a treat? Well, just read on and see what happened.

If you noticed in a few posts ago I was attempting to build a MythTV box for my entertainment system. I finally splurged and got myself a nice TV in card for beast of a computer, all was looking good. I decided to clear off a lot of the crap I got on my system before I formatted and installed Linux, no problems. I decided to install Gentoo for a laugh because it was a pretty good distro to play with, so I downloaded the iso and went to town. First off it took me a while to get the SOB to boot due to an IRQ conflict that I wasn’t aware I had, so that was just great. I should have taken it as a sign that something was wrong with Linux.

All was going good, finally, got the bitch to boot up and start sucking down source code off the internet! I decide to pop on a movie and sit back and relax as I pop through each stage of the install. About 2 and a half hours into the installation I notice the smell of burning electronics in the air and being the great detective that I am I decided to look at the candle burning next to me. It didn’t click for some reason. Next thing I know I glance at my laptop screen and I notice the build failed and the machine locked up, still nothing clicked. So I’m sitting in a room with a computer that has locked up while building for 2 1/2/ hours and the smell of burning electronics getting stronger. I decide to look again at the candle.

Nothing registers on the radar and then I notice a flash of light at my computer, I just look in amazement. I wonder, was that my computer or was it something else. I decided to investigate when I notice the little bit of smoke coming out it to find that my computer decided to pass onto the next world. I don’t care to much about the case/power supply, even the motherboard and chip, I was just worried about everything connected to it! Long story short I started stabbing the fan with a screw driver, chard black, in a fit of rage trying to get it off my cremated thunderbird! With great difficulty and much cursing I finally get the computer taken apart with a fried power supply, black CPU and a black fan! Oh the joy!

I know what you’re saying, doesn’t your computer have a shutoff for when it overheats? Yeah, I thought so too!! Haha

Long story short, Linux kills. I’ve never seen a window box catch on fire because the installation was to hard ;) Bring on the zealots!!!

Remember me? Yeah I'm still here!

Well it's about that time of the week to make a post to this bloody thing eh? I've been so busy lately that I honestly haven't had a chance to do this, or even reply to a lot of my e-mail. I'm sitting down here now trying to catch up on my typing and it's going well. Anyway, first post in a two weeks talks about me not being able to post! Boring!

Things are going really good on my end, everything considered. I did get to go to Niagara the other weekend and I enjoyed the falls, casino, the sights, and some great company! I ended up getting home around 4:00 I think? So it was a late, but great night. The falls are really impressive at night I must say, it's amazing what a few lights can do to a place. I purchased tickets the other day to enjoy REM at the Humming Bird Center of Performing Arts in Toronto! We did get two good seats on the lower level that I'm sure will give us an amazing show. The last time I saw REM I was stuck in the lower bowl but back far from the stage, worst 80 dollar seats in the house ;) This time though we are going to be a lot closer and I'm actually looking forward to it. I got the Metallica concert coming up on the 6th or 9th (can't remember) and that's going to be burnt out! I'm going by myself so hopefully I will leave with my body intact

So I was driving to work the other day, and for those who know me I tend to drive half aggressive, and I got pulled over for speeding! I was doing 84 in a 60 (I was lucky I was able to jam my breaks on so he never fully clocked me). So the cop pulls me in, talks to me and I start to shoot the shit with the guy. Told him I just moved here from NF (like a week ago), that I was late for a meeting at work and joked about how lucky I was that he never clocked me 2 seconds earlier! Long story short he ended up letting me off with the speeding and wrote me up for not having proof of insurance on me, which is only a 65 dollar fine but I lose no points! That versus a 145 dollar ticket and 4 points??? Yeah, I got a great break! I don't know what I said but I was like a pig in shit all day because of that. Got pretty fucking lucky.

My words of wisdom today? I said this to my friend last night on the phone....Teaching alone should be enough inspiration to keep going! Fuck, that doesn't sound that wise and I think I got it wrong. Ahh well...you get the idea. I had a great laugh when I said it!

I'm off and up out!

You ask and you shall receive!

Just a small excerpt from the life of Daryl, could be an interesting read. Well as I mentioned in the past I decided to get a tattoo done on my back of the freaky eye you see in the last post I made, cool eh? So I decided to go down today and attempt to book a time to get it done and the artist I want is booked up until December!!! Even in December he has free days that he will not allow appointments so it's first come first serve, going to be annoying. Looks like I will be standing in line to let a man stab me with needles and put ink in me. It will be worth it though in the end, I hope. Going under the assumption that the tattoo will take 3 hours to do it's going to cost me upwards of 500 bucks!! Well if you're getting something on your body that will not go away I think it's worth it to make sure you get it done right, hence the price.

My plans to go to Calgary got screwed over because I forgot I had a ticket to Metallica on the 6th of Oct. Should be a great concert but I would rather go to Calgary in all honesty. Ahh well, I guess I get to save up more vacation time for down the road for wherever I plan to travel to, god only knows. Speaking of traveling I'm going to be heading down to Niagara Falls this weekend and making it a day/night out of it. I will be seeing the falls at night which is supposed to be pretty cool because it's all lit up. I'm actually looking forward to Saturday now, pictures will follow suit soon after!

All and all everything is going good in the KW, even though I may bitch a lot. Actually have a lot of time to go to the gym, hang out, enjoy the weather (esp. the warm nights), I've fallen in love with drinking harp on my deck and I guess I am having a bit of fun up here. I kinda do miss some of my friends from home but I saw that coming a mile away, who doesn't get a bit homesick eh?

Anyway, I gotta get back to doing stuff, good ole stuff!

Remember, Take her easy, and if she's easy take her twice!
