BlackBerry Programming Contest

For those of you who know, and they probably isn't to many of you, me and a friend entered a programming contest during the Fall of 2003. If you're interested in the outcome of the contest then follow this post and you shall be rewarded!

Well this contest took place over the fall of 2003 while I was living in Waterloo. One of my friends forwarded me the link to the BlackBerry contest which was hosted by the Waterloo IEEE Student Branch. Me and my roomate Chris O'Keefe thought it would be an easy win if we just hacked together some code and submitted it. but we were wrong.

It was a good effort by us, 10 hours of code each, but we came in second. And to thank us for our hard work and efforts we each get a piece of paper while first place receives 5 grand! What a rip eh? Personally I think it's a scam where they were afraid to let two Newfies beat the most arrogant school...I mean best...I mean prestigious er... school in Canada. Ok, I'm jumping the gun here and odds are they won fair and square but It's the internet! I'm allowed to bitch and complain, right? One thing I will complain about is the fact that they said there were logic flaws in the code. I checked over the submitted code and well it is impossible for a four of a kind to be treated as a 3 of a kind. What's done is done!! haha

Anyway do you see that little navigation bar up top there? Well roll that mouse of yours over the programming icon and select BlackBerry contest if you want to see the UML, JavaDoc, Source Code and everything else we passed in for the project, or click here! The code should be up sometime after new years when I get a chance to put it up.

Important - Webpage Updates!!

Ok. It's been a very long time since I updated this webpage. Actually I should rephrase that, it's been a long time since I have updated and notified people of changes to this webpage! Well this post will inform people of the many changes that have been done over the past few months when inspiration struck me. There has been some cool stuff done to this page and there will be lot's more to come over the next few months. Turns out I have a lot of free time now If you want anything added here just drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.

p>New updates!

1. I am now using a blog style system for updating this page. May not seem
like a big deal but this will keep me in line and help me post info for the
admiring public.

2. Created a gallery for all my images. I have pictures
of a Radiohead concert, Montreal vs Toronto hockey game at the ACC, pictures of
Canada's Wonderland, pictures of various RSCS (RIM Co-op Social Committee) and
misc pictures of my apartment and stuff.

3. Updated my webpage to reflect school work I did in href="school/Term6/">6, including a paper I wrote analyzing the Realtek
RTL8139C(L)+ Embedded Network Processor, some basic stuff we wrote up for our
computer architecture course and a paper for a philosophy course. Follow the
links for the content!

4. Ported the href="http://www.bushland.net/school/Term2/rubberbandgun/rubberbandgun.php">rubberband
gun project I made years ago. I do look at the logs generated for this page
and it seems that this page has been and probably will keep on getting a lot of
traffic, hence the port. Why the hell not eh?

5. Got some new hosting done for this
site! Currently I am hosting one my friends bands, href="http://shilo.bushland.net/">shilo for a friend on shilo.bushland.net.
This new company has a great hosting package that gives me unlimited e-mails,
access to web logs, 20 GB monthly transfer, 5 GB of space, 5 sub domains (sadly
enough www.bushland.net counts as one), href="http://bushland.net/webmail/">webmail and a lot of other goodies!

Things to be done:

sadly enough this list will be much larger than the done list. It seems no
matter what I do this list will always be a beast of a size!

1. Fix the feedback form so it doesn't even ask for
a users e-mail and so it works properly. When I switched this page over to a new
host

2. Update my resume to reflect my last three work terms, Memorial Univeristy,
Tera Nova Marine Ltd, and Research In Motion (RIM).

3. I still really want to make a killer Linux section on this page containg
links and documents that I wrote over the years

4. For my public I want to throw some stuff up about me. Just quick little
rants and stuff!

5. Throw in some classy graphics and stuff. I was thinking about going with
something like/from bluerobot.com! I
havn't decided on what to put in my page yet but it will be black and white no
matter what I do end up doing.

That's about all I can think of right now for the short term. Hopefully I will
be able to do all this over my x-mas break.
